People have their own beliefs of what is right and what is wrong, and this contradicts through different perspectives of people. Morality dictates what is right and wrong and not what is supposed to be right or wrong in our society. According to psychology, morality is about the decision we make. Honesty is a complicated topic affected by culture, religion, concepts, and beliefs. It is true, “you can’t legislate morality” according to rights against discrimination in our society, and the Civil Rights Act of 1964 in America .
“You can’t legislate morals,” education and religion play the most significant roles in helping people deal with morality issues. Regulation of morals is possible but not legislation. Common law aimed to change the mindset of people against discrimination. (Ferraro, and Zambon, 2019). Civil Rights Act of 1964 fought discrimination based on religion, race as well as ethnicity. Housing was provided to black people as well as given the right to vote.
Civil rights aimed to regulate the behavior of humans and bring about peace. For instance, in protecting gay workers whereby sexuality is a human and fundamental right, this has changed society on how they view morality based on imposed laws. Civil rights act brought about fairness, liberty, and freedom to those who had no right of speech in fear of authority
Regulations from the government shape our morality and are a presentation of God’s power.Parents raise their kids according to morals and ethics, as well as teachers and employers. American civil rights about equality between black children to education are essential, but the law cannot change how people regard each other based on race. Antidiscrimination Law is powerless based on race, and nothing can bring about social equality apart from human conscience based on learned morals in religion and education.
Consequently, according to Civic rights, Martin Luther King said that the main concern is not about legislation of morality but regulations. Honesty can be regulated through the laws, education as well as religion. Rules such as racial discrimination in America can only be followed by those whose conscience is upright. The codes cannot make a person stop racism but can regulate the racism as a behavior. Human beings have the right to sexuality; therefore, the gay community has the right to their sexuality. It is hard to change their behavior by use of the law, but they have the right to their sexual decisions. Finally, it is true, “you can’t legislate morality.”Everyone has the right to choose what is good and evil, but through the laws, education and religion behaviors are regulated.
