Assessment Description
Creating a positive classroom environment is essential to children’s learning. It is equally important to communicate your classroom management system with families so they understand what is expected from their child each day.

Allocate at least 4 hours in the field to support this field experience.

For this assignment, choose a pre-K-Grade 3 mentor teacher and interview him or her about their classroom management system.

Listed below are possible interview questions:

What is your approach to classroom management?
How do you write a classroom management plan and what is included in the plan?
Describe classroom management plans that you have used in the past and the one you currently use. What factors made you adjust or alter your classroom management plan?
Do you believe you should build rapport with students? If yes, what are some strategies you use? If no, why not?
What rules do you have in your classroom, and how do you teach them to your students?
How do you curb student misbehavior? How would you handle a student who constantly disrupts the learning environment?
How do you model the safe, legal, and ethical use of technology as part of your classroom management?
How do you integrate the use of diverse digital tools and resources to accommodate the needs of students with exceptionalities?
How do you communicate with parents regarding your classroom management plan as well as misbehavior when it occurs?
What routines/procedures do you have in your classroom, and how do you teach them to your students?
Any other additional information you would like to share.
After your interview, spend your remaining field experience hours reviewing the mentor’s classroom management plan and observing his or her classroom management style.

Using the information from the interview and your observations, write a 250-500 word summary of your interview.

Include the following:

Describe your mentor teacher’s classroom rules and procedures.
How you want to implement your classroom rules and procedures.
How you will encourage good behavior in your classroom.
How you will prevent and manage misbehavior.
How you will regularly communicate with families regarding their student’s classroom behavior and ability to meet set expectations.
Safe, legal, and ethical use of digital information and technology in the classroom as appropriate for young children.
A classroom management system is a set of strategies and techniques that teachers use to manage student behavior and create a positive learning environment in the classroom. It involves setting expectations for student behavior, establishing routines and procedures, and using positive reinforcement to encourage good behavior.

Effective classroom management can help students feel safe and supported, which can lead to increased engagement and academic achievement. Some common strategies for managing a classroom include:

Setting clear expectations: Clearly communicating your expectations for student behavior can help reduce misbehavior and promote a positive learning environment.

Establishing routines and procedures: Creating a set of routines and procedures can help students feel more comfortable and secure in the classroom, and can make it easier for you to manage the class.

Using positive reinforcement: Rewarding students for good behavior can encourage them to continue exhibiting positive behavior in the future.

Implementing consequences: If a student exhibits inappropriate behavior, it is important to have a system in place to address the behavior and teach the student appropriate behavior.

Promoting a positive classroom culture: Creating a positive classroom culture can help students feel more connected to one another and more motivated to learn.

Managing your own emotions: It is important for teachers to manage their own emotions and stay calm in order to create a positive learning environment for their students.

By using a combination of these strategies, teachers can effectively manage their classrooms and create a positive learning environment for all students.
