They oversee the first level nursing care services and entirely focuses on one unit. Second managers focus on several units in nursing. The nurse executives oversee all the nursing practices.
Palliative care
Palliative care is care given to patients with life-threatening diseases. It aims at reducing physical and psychological stress and controlling symptoms such as pain and nausea. For example, a cancer patient undergoing chemotherapy gets nausea, he/she may take medication to control it. Palliative care is offered by a primary care physician together with other specialists such as psychotherapists, nurses and occupational therapists. Telehealth plays an essential role in palliative care. It not only provides a platform for the caregiver to connect with the patient’s family but also provides apps that can be used to track the progress of the patient.
Diabetes types
Type 1
Diabetes type 1 is caused by the destruction of beta cells in the pancreas leading to minimal or no production of insulin. Insulin converts blood sugar into energy that is used by the body. Failure of the pancreas to perform its role leads to the build-up of blood sugar. The exact cause of this type is not yet known. However, some genetic and environmental factors are speculated to be the cause. It is chronic and can be managed by injecting insulin under the skin.
Type 2
Diabetes type 2 is caused by poor utilization of insulin in the body. This increases the demand until the body is not able to produce enough insulin to break down glucose to energy for utilization. It leads to high blood sugar. This type of diabetes can be controlled through diet and exercise. Telehealth and telemedicine have greatly aided in the control of diabetes. With the shortage of pediatric endocrinologists to consult on matters of diabetes. Patients can get information from telehealth facilities.
Geriatrics
Geriatrics is a branch of health care that focuses on the care of the elderly. Aging comes with several complications and disorders that need attention. Geriatrics concentrate on providing care to old people. Telehealth has played an essential role in geriatrics. It has not only aided in disease prevention and control but also prevented deaths and unnecessary disability. Caregivers can easily track the progress of the elderly using telehealth facilities.
