Installing Software Packages
Installing software on Linux is a critical procedure that should be memorized and followed for successful completion. The installation of the software has become easier due to the development of the procedures and technologies that guides the process. While installing software, it is important to understand different methods, the available versions, and ways of troubleshooting.
The package manager is considered as a sub-system on Linux whose function is to manage the packages or software on a computer. The package stores the history or track of all the software installed. Therefore, while tracking the history, it ensures that packages of similar characteristics are stored at a specific location as well as upgrading them (Wallen, 2020). The other uses include resolving the dependencies and control the users from installing the software from other source codes. The package managers are differentiated according to different functions and have different name extensions. The installation is on Linux Mint, which has tools such as backup, USB image writer, and Nanny, among others. The three ways of installing the software include installing RPM packages, installing DEB packages, and installing from tarballs or Source code (Software Testing Help, 2020). The resources that can be used as a help in troubleshooting are the inbuilt help tools on Linux, the open-source resources, or other tools such as ping, Netstat, and Tracert or seek expert help from the sites.
In conclusion, installing software on Linux requires an understanding of its operations. Therefore, tools and packages help in the whole process, together with following the right procedures during executions. Whenever there is a need to do troubleshooting, then it is important to utilize the help websites as well as the available tools for better solutions.
