Ethos and pathos

1) Analyze the major differences between the ethos Staples develops in the first essay and the one he develops in the second essay. (Perhaps something to consider: how might each ethos construction be meant to reach and move the audience and why [what is the rhetorical value/purpose of the differences in his ethos development]?) [What is the rhetorical value/purpose of the variances in his ethos development?] How may each ethos construction be meant to reach and affect the audience, and why?

2) Analyze the major differences in the logos-based moves of each essay. (Perhaps something to consider: in the second essay, why does Staples spend very little time trying to make the audience aware of the changes in his behavior? What does such a choice suggest about the strategy behind his use of logos in the first essay?)
