Cyber-Adversaries’ Capabilities
The PricewaterhousCoopers Firm (PwC) released a survey on the extent of cybercrimes across the public and private sector. As such, among the four themes that they managed to produce based on their understanding is that of underestimating the capabilities of the cyber-adversaries from the leaders. Such a case is also applicable in this day and age as the leaders are not in a position to fully the vast array of risks posed by cybercrimes to the ecosystem (PWC, 2013). The leaders are also less knowledgeable thus there lacks the required measure of competence and professionalism in the identification and mitigation of cybercrimes. Besides, the leaders’ understanding of cyber security measures and its application as well as importance to the organization’s operation is also wanting.
The cause of such a high level of underestimation is the lack of substantial knowledge as well as negligence and ignorance from the leaders. They rush to take action after attacks and counter-attacks have already occurred due to their failure in understanding how increasingly hostile it has gotten across the industry. In some cases, companies do not appreciate the importance of risk assessment while some do not provide their leaders with the cyber-security strategies in place which means that the leaders do not have any access with the liaison process put in place by the company to directly reach law enforcement.
To assist in the correction of such a deficiency, leaders are obliged to be at the front line in receiving essential cyber-security education. As they are acquainted with the risks involved, they will be motivated to establish remedial measures for management. Furthermore, the leaders also have to join hands with the government to develop an inter-organizational effort geared towards combating cybercrime.
