Consider the major tenets of Christian Theism. How do we know what is right and wrong?
Among the three major practiced religions, Christianity is the most dominant, garnering more than two billion followers worldwide. Like any other religion, the Christian faith is centered on various beliefs known as the tenets of the Christian faith. These doctrines revolve around birth, life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, the son of God. Christians believe in one Godhead who consists of three parts; God himself, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit.
Christians also believe in the teachings of the Bible, which is the word of God to Christians. True followers of the Christian faith acknowledge Jesus Christ as the standard of right and wrong. The life of Jesus and his teachings through his ministry and other teachings of the Bible defines Christian morality.
Prepare to discuss how we know what is right and wrong based on the perspective of a Christian theist
A Christian theist believes in one God, in his son Jesus Christ, and the Bible’s teachings. As a Christian, morality comes from religion, particularly the teachings of Jesus Christ in the bibble. Thus, from a Christian viewpoint, our actions should be based on what the Bible says regarding a particular issue. Essentially, God is the legislator of morality in Christianity. He decides what is right and wrong, similar to how the state decides what is legal and illegal.
However, the Bible does not address every situation and action. For instance, the Bible does not directly address the issue of gambling. As authentic Christian, we must be ready to deeply understand the principles of God’s teachings and be ready to think and integrate these teachings in our actions in a way that reflects what God would have wanted us to do.
Justify your response based on the seven basic worldview questions.
Everyone, including atheists and Christian theists, has a worldview. There are so many teaching, advice, and moral implications in the Bible for a Christian to understand all at a go. Also, not everything is addressed by the Bible. The worldview questions put together all these teachings such that it is easy for a Christian to make a decision even when the scriptures do not directly address the issue.
The seven worldviews seek to answer the basics questions of life and enable Christian to make moral decisions that are in line with their faith and beliefs. For instance, on the question of what is the prime reality, Christians will say it’s God. On the question of what is a human being, Christianity will answer that it is created in the image of God. On the subject of how we know what is right and what is wrong, Christians will answer that we have the laws written in our hearts and his teachings as revealed in his word. These teachings and laws should guide a Christian’s actions in deciphering what is right and what is wrong.
