Title: Preparation for Mock international Meetings
Abstract
In preparing for international meetings, it is essential that the experts and coordinating teams look into the proper languages to be used to streamline communications. France acknowledges the fact that English is a common language understood by many henc the team will consider it for communication. Nonetheless, France does request having the official documents and communications during the meeting translated into French. These translations will also be important for the African countries speaking French and have minimal comprehension of the english language. France acknowledges the fact that the translations and interpretations can be expensive for the ITU. However, a seamless communication will ensure that the agenda in these international meetings is adequately understood.

In preparing to hold the international meetings with other countries, France expects that communications during the meetings will be seamless with every participant having a complete understanding of the meetings’ agenda. Currently, the official languages of the ITU are Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish. Notably, for any discrepancies in communication, French shall prevail during the meeting. Notably, a country is at liberty to have translators for communication in a language other than the listed official languages.
France is a country that takes pride in their language, French, as they consider it part of its national identity hence would not easily yield a convention-based right only for practical reasons. Therefore for France, the country will have all the official documents translated into french and all official meetings using official languages interpreted to the desired language. Following the stipulated recommendation, France will make a request for these translations and interpretations two months earlier of the international meetings. The country does acknowledge that many participants in the international meetings understand English and it will be the primary language used in communication and the documents. Nonetheless, many African countries that will be part of the international meetings understand and communicate using the language French more than they do English. Hence, it is important that the ITU consider a standardization of the language and consider incorporating French for these countries’ sake.
It is essential that the international meetings take advantage of technological equipment and advances to streamline the communications’ process for each participant (University of Minnesota, 2015). In this case, online and oral interpretations need to be provided to ensure that each involved country understands what is happening in those meetings. Machine-aided interpretations and translations need to be improvised especially for the few countries that do not understand English. Considering that the aforementioned systems are not perfect yet, it will not be practical to use it for a large group. Therefore, the experts team is to ensure that the machines aiding in translation and interpretation have been developed in a manner that streamlines communication with the languages that are not formal. The costs in ensuring that each involved country understands what is being communicated can be exorbitant. Therefore, ITU needs to consider all the important elements that will ensure every country is included adequately in terms of language. Diversity in the international meetings can be challenging to manage but actionable strategies to streamline communication, they become very successful for collaboration and culture (Boyarsky, 2020).
