Code of Ethics
Prepare a code of ethics for a fictional criminal justice agency that includes a minimum of eight elements. If you are not a member of a criminal justice agency, research the type of agency you wish to join to get an idea of which elements should be included. Once you have compiled the code of ethics, respond to the following questions:

Code of Ethics
The agency is designed to protect the public by containing offenders in a safe environment through programs and opportunities for promoting good behavior and assist offenders in becoming law-abiding (Siegel, and Worrall, 2018). The agency also includes correctional leadership, human resource management, security facility management, public safety, counter-terrorism, and building partnership. Various codes of conducts are missing in the agency, for instance, objective rensponsibility, transparency, external control, external control.
The elements are important for the organization in ensuring safety is maintained, health, reporting, correction procedures, and reporting. The elements are not well met in the agency, where safety, health , and reporting is a big issue. The elements are a foundation of ethical behaviours because they assist in enabling police officers react to ethical dilemmas, enhance accountability, and act according to expected behavior in a professional setting. Additionally, based on the agency code of ethics, organizations are not fully accountable for protecting society (Siegel, and Worrall, 2018). The agency lacks special housing units known as solitary consignments for protecting offenders. According to civil rights and human rights, solitary confinement is important for offenders. The agency requires special housing units, facility maintenance, and health care to enhance offenders’ safety and health. According to a review conducted in the facility, the agency does not have adequate protective custody housing units in place, resources, and correction police officers. Management of the housing units is required since the housing units are not enough, there is a high backlog of inmates waiting to be transferred in the special facilities (Siegel, and Worrall, 2018). The agency police officers don’t know how to act to ethical dilemmas, such when to apply professional standards and when to apply deterrence.
Additionally, the agency does not have a formal re-entry procedure for joining the special facilities and those who can access the facilities. The agency does not have a track record of people visiting the special housing, and mental health services in the agency require improvement and on diagnosis, treatment, and staffing (Siegel, and Worrall, 2018). Quality control, lack of procedures, and resources are the core issues that prevent the agency from attaining safety and health as a core code of conduct. The issue element of safety and health affect women more than men, where women in solitary units go through reproductive health issues because of poor hygienic conditions in the system. For instance, women are forced to change clothes and take showers in Infront of men, which is risky.
A code of ethics is important in ensuring the organization achieves the set goals and objectives. For instance, a code of ethics enables correctional police officers to attain the code of ethics requirements, such as in maintaining safety and health. Police officers learn the need to conduct frequent parole in solitary confinement, cater to women’s health, and ensuring the facility is clean and human from inmates. A code of ethics promotes safety and correction, where both correctional officers and inmates maintain discipline and cooperate to achieve ethical behaviors. On the other hand, police officers understand the use of force and deterrence while conducting patrols (Whine, 2019). A code of ethics is very important in enhancing public service value, where police officers are expected to enhance transparency, integrity, accountability, and confidentiality in their operations. The code of ethics fosters professionalism among police officers, makes daily reports, issues concerning inmate’s behavior, corruption, and the improvement of offenders.
A code of ethics assists agencies in reasoning critically and professionally before solving issues in the facility. Also, the code of ethics enables the agency to offer the best services to the public, such as just punishment to offenders, controlling crime, and fair administration (Siegel, and Worrall, 2018). The agency, however, provides special services to different offenders in society. For instance, offering diagnosis and treatment programs to mentally ill offenders and drug users (Whine, 2019). Code of ethics ensures the society is free from crime and violence by making sure lawbreakers are incarcerated, rehabilitated, or taken for community-based services. The code of ethics enables the agencies to apply critical thinking, creativity, and professional standards to maintain peace and deal with a dilemma. For instance, the agency authorizes police officers to maintain a good relationship with the public and when to apply deterrence.
I would train and follow up on officers to ensure applying the code of ethics in daily activities. I would train police officers on how to treat different types of offenders based on gender, and mental stability, such as dealing with mentally ill offenders (Siegel, and Worrall, 2018). On the other hand, I would train offended on offering support and advice to stressed and depressed offenders in the correction facilities to avoid cases of death, self-harm, and suicide. Additionally, I would ensure police officers shave a draft of their ethics codes to read and assist when faced with a dilemma in performing theory duties. I would follow up on their progress by asking for a daily report on everyday activities and duties (Whine, 2019). On the other hand, I would train police officers on maintaining a good relationship with inmates and being accountable for their actions, such as excessive use of force, inconsistency in making tracking records for the special housing, and following procedures, goals, vision, and mission statement.
