Introductions and Health Education Activity Proposal

Students will finish and finish up their review of the literature on the topic of their scholarly poster. (CHILDHOOD OBESITY IS MY SUBJECT) The final table will have at least 10 and no more than 20 of the best academic articles found so far to support the poster topic. Use 11 point font. In the first half of this discussion post, please take a few moments to introduce yourself and get to know your peers. Tell us how long you have been a practicing nurse and what your current level of experience is with community and population health.
Vulnerable populations are those groups who have an increased risk for developing adverse health outcomes. A vulnerable population group is a subgroup of the population that is more likely to develop health problems as a result of exposure to risk or have worse outcomes from these health problems than the rest of the population. Vulnerable populations are groups of people who are more likely to have bad health outcomes. A vulnerable population group is a part of the population that is more likely than the rest of the population to get sick from being exposed to risk or to have worse health problems as a result. In the second half of this discussion post, identify a local vulnerable population (in your area) that you are interested in learning more about and helping through a health education activity. Identify the vulnerable population and briefly discuss what you think their health needs might be (in three to four sentences). This should be the focus of your health education activity, which will be due in Module Five.

In response to your peers, discuss any similarities and/or differences between their chosen population and yours. This module is also a great opportunity to make connections with your peers and develop a sense of community within the class.

Health Education Activity Note: If you have some leads or connections to a vulnerable population already in your area, then you are off to a great start. If you need it, there is also an online resource called City-Data.com, which provides a wealth of additional information, including health information such as diabetes and obesity rates, access to hospitals, demographics, and so on. You may use this site by searching directly for your town or city, or by starting with the state and working your way down to your local area.
