Electronic health record (EHR) technology shows real-time patient-centered recorded. The technology shows the digital information that is similar to a patient’s paper chart. The system is built to go beyond clinically collected data that is inclusive of more details about a patient’s care. The method entails treatment and medical histories of patients. In 2014, the EHR technology market reached $34.9 billion. The trend towards moving into technology, most healthcare systems currently utilize EHR software. However, the software lacks handwriting and charting recognition. The interface requires a lot of clicks, thus limiting usability (Essa et al., .2018).
The two of the most popular EHRs include eClinicalWorks v10 and McKesson. eClinicalWorks v10 is an EHR suite that serves as a practice management system. The HER suite is compatible with small practices because of its low, transparent, and appealing prices (Mandle and Kohane,2012). The site entails free on-site implementation training. Also, the platform does not require installations or set up fees. The standard feature of an eClinicalWorks v10 includes a patient portal, appointment management, E-prescribing, coding advice, and voice recognition features. The patient portal is known as Healow, which collects data from wearables. Health and wellness information entails data such as request e fills, review records, education materials, referrals, and test results. Moreover, the platform combines HER and practice management data for secure transfer during payments (Tancer and Varde,2012).
McKesson platform focuses on independent physicians by offering effective long-term planning. The platform provides business intelligence reporting. Customer services, denial, and compliance management data. McKesson is integrated with practice management; thus it is highly suitable form independence physicians in small practices. The platform is designed for physicians to cultivate relationships with their patients. The platform offers chatting styles that summarize a patient’s record into one single note that can get synced to generate searchable data. However, reviews from Consumer affairs magazine (Walker,2008) stated that the platform has a steep learning curve and poor usability guidance. New users reported experiencing difficulty when trying to navigate the system.
eClinicalWorks is a software that was designed to sell electronic medical records and healthcare services to healthcare providers. The platform works as software as a service where modules are available at the servers. Also, the information stored, such as diagnostic tests, past visits, current treatment, can be accessed through a smartphone. Also, the platform enables open communication between the physician and a patient. eClinicalWorks is designed to support meaningful is stage 1 and stage 2 (Walker,2008).The platform developed to support electronic referrals, thus creating a smooth communication stream between the client and the patient. The founder of McKesson, John Mckesson, started the company to wholesale and import pharmaceutical products. The technology solutions offer an extensive network infrastructure that collects nursing information, electronic health records, practice management, and pharmacy information.
Carecloud uses the Mckessons platform to provide solutions in the hospital’s IT system. THE Carecloud EHR system has been rated as a leading service provider in their practice management. The EHR system uses Mckessons because it includes independent physicians. Also, the Allscripts platform uses the eClinicalWorks platform to focus on its medium to small physician practices. Allscripts uses the platform for its ability to condense chart information into once note. The system provides its services to hospitals, physician practices, and other healthcare services.
