In the world of business, there is an interaction between the legal realm and what skills a non-business person needs as an employer to operate in different businesses. Organizations are governed by laws and regulations, including tax laws, regulations concerning the environment, and rules that govern the establishment of unions and their rights. The business legal realm helps in detecting how businesses and their employees work together or independently in conducting business operations.
In most organizations, there are legal counsels on staff that conduct the legal process of the organization. However, when workplace legal situation arises that involves an employee, the companies distance themselves living the employees to depend on themselves. Therefore, it is important that employees familiarize themselves with business and workplace laws and regulations so that they gain their protection against potential abuse from their employers. Employees should have an understanding of what employer conduct can be perceived as discrimination or harassment such as if they are obligated random drug testing if they are subjected to a hostile work environment, the wrong termination, or if they are required to work overtime (Joubert, 2018). Employees in an organization should also know their collective bargain rights and roles and the laws and regulations that protect the interference of their role or right by the organization.
For a businessperson to make a good decision, there are several legal course training that one can undergo. Some of the subjects a businessperson should take include understanding the contract law such as the definitions of a contract, learning about the basic requirements of a contract and types of contracts (Learn.org, 2019). The businessperson should also gain knowledge of different crimes that affect the business by learning about property crimes, bribery, corruption, racketeering, cyber-crimes, forgery, and embezzlement. The businessperson should also get knowledge on how to prevent different acts of co-operating crimes by both employees and the organization. Lastly, the businessperson should also learn ethical decisions in business that may result in legal problems.
The non-legal positions that require a more than average understanding of legal issues in the business world include Human Resource Managers who primary focus on planning, directing, or coordinating human resources activities and organization staff. The HRMs average salary is $126,700. The Human Resource Specialists that play the role of employing specialists who screen, recruit and interview, and place workers have an average salary of $66,790. The Business Operations Specialists with an average salary of $76,960 require a more than average understanding of legal issues (U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2019). The other non-legal positions in the category are Property, Real Estate, and Community Association Managers which a play a role of planning, directing or coordinating the selling, leasing, buying, or governance activities of residential, industrial, or commercial real estates. The average salary for Property, Real Estate, and Community Association Managers is $71,730.
It will be important for one not to mind liaising with legal personnel for a business. The liaising would help one to remain updated in each sector of the organization concerning any legal issues. With always being informed, it enables an employee to handle legal issues or avoid violating rules and regulations that may rise to legal issues (Hamel, 2019). Legal personnel also provides help in facilitating communication two parties, which is beneficial for employees when discussing legal terms and conditions for their employment with high ranks in the organization. The employees can also depend on the legal personnel in bring up concerns to their supervisors or seniors.
