Cyber Security

The cybersecurity landscape is changing rapidly. As an interested party in the developments, I find no better chance to keep up with the trends in cybersecurity than learning from the experts. It is for this reason that I am applying for admission to the Master of Science in Cybersecurity at Saint Leo University.
I graduated with a BS in Computer Information Systems from the same university in May 2018. Studying BS in Computer Information Systems exposes the student to the general principles of computer information systems. The information security principles captured my attention primarily because they introduced me to the expansive world of hardware and software security questions.
Since graduating I have had an opportunity to practice as a security software developer, working under skilled and experienced security software experts. The interaction with information security experts lead me to the appreciation of the complexity and continuous development of the information security environment.
When I applied for working opportunities I found myself more interested in information security systems and it was at this point that I noted two important factors. The first was that there is a huge opportunity in security software development especially considering the rise in internet of things and other technologies whose value proposition is tamper-proof security software. Secondly, I yearned for a development of skills from the understanding of the principles of cybersecurity and information systems security to the technical aspects of information security. Having read the program guide for the Master of Science in Cybersecurity, I confidently affirm that it offers the technical knowledge that I seek.
One of the areas that I will be pursuing in the long-run as Security Software Developer is the area of Internet of Things (IoT). I have been seeking information on how to secure different traditionally primitive technologies. It was while seeking knowledge that I learnt of three important concepts that include conventional cryptography, lightweight cryptography, and ultra-lightweight cryptography. These classifications of cryptography arise from the fact that many of the IoT devices are indeed constrained on memory, data rate, and energy resources making it difficult to secure them. I believe that the interactive learning environment offered by the Master of Science in Cybersecurity program at Saint Leo University will offer me the opportunity to learn more about these aspects of cryptography and allow me to delve deep into other information security issues and protocols.
Every time I interact or work with a person or organization I seek reviews. Out of the different reviews I have learnt that people see me as candid, determined, innovative, and system-oriented. I consider myself a team player and with strong analytical and problem-solving skills. I may not have a lot on leadership skills but I inspire my colleagues to be better. These soft aspects demonstrate how well I interact with others but most importantly, they demonstrate why a career in security software development interests me. The aspects may help in demonstrating too you why the Master of Science in Cybersecurity program at Saint Leo University is very important to me.
In concluding, I have huge aspirations of making a successful career as a security software developer. I have learnt from experience that I need to learn the technical aspects of security software development and the Master of Science in Cybersecurity at Saint Leo University is the program that will best prepare me for the career. The academic background, technical experience, and personality information provided in this statement demonstrates why I am well-prepared and yearning to join the program.
