Change Leadership in Nursing
Nurses play an essential part in health promotion. They not only provide primary health care but also engage in improving the well-being of the patient. Change leadership perceives nursing management and leadership as a vital tool for improving health. It encourages more nurse leaders to step forward and participate in critical matters in health care.
Transformational leadership calls for nurses to partner with pharmacists and other health professionals to provide health care. The partnership will improve health care outcomes and minimize medical errors. Socialization is vital in establishing relationships with others. Mentorship is also essential as it prepares new nurses for leadership roles.
Apart from that, change leadership also seeks to enhance responsibility among nurses through engagement. Nurse leaders should engage nurses in coaching and team building to improve job satisfaction, nurse retention, and teamwork. Nurses should work closely with directors and executives at all levels.
Nurses should work with patients and their families to improve their health conditions. They should offer care that aligns with their beliefs and customs. They should also include them in decision-making and provide them with timely information regarding the patient’s health. Nurses should respect the decision of the patient.
Nurse leaders should take it upon themselves to engage in policy-making and legislation. They should also be involved in decision making to promote the patient’s health. Nurse leaders should develop curricula that will assist the upcoming nurses in meeting the needs of the patient and the community.
They should also engage in research and develop new models for implementation in practice. Nurse leaders should be willing to adapt to changes in health care, such as adopting new technology, adjusting the budget, and even hiring new staff. They should make decisions fast and seek accurate information from the right sources.
Since the pressure among nurse leaders can be intense, they should take care of themselves and avoid burnout. They should be more self-aware in terms of their abilities and work hard to improve their weaknesses. Nurse leaders should develop good relationships with other nurses through effective communication.
For nurses to engage in transformational leadership, they must be conversant with care delivery systems, teamwork, ethical care, and innovation. They should also be willing to be strong advocates for patients. Nurses from the bedside to the bedroom should be at the frontline in improving work processes. They should work collaboratively with others in decision making.
